Work, Life and 2FA

We can’t urge anyone strongly enough to add 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) to any online login process. But we sometimes run into problems when that second step involves sending an email to a personal account and the phone we’re using to log in is a work phone.

In other cases, we may have our Wi-Fi turned on for our phone, but we may be in a place with no Wi-Fi access. The solution for that problem is simple if you have cellular service. Turn off the Wi-Fi setting, and you should be able to receive the email or text you need to complete the 2FA process.

If the 2FA process gives you the choice of receiving an email or text message to your phone, select the text message. If you must receive an email, you have two options:

  1. Add the email account to your phone temporarily. It’s a relatively straightforward process with your iPhone, In Settings, go to Email and tap Add Account. As long as you know your password, you can add the email account, check your email, and delete the account once you’ve completed your task.
  2. Open your web browser on your phone and go to your Microsoft Office 365 or Gmail account. Then, log in and go to your email account to view your messages online.

If you have any questions about how to set up your phones to work with 2FA, call us – 973-433-6676 – to walk you through the process.
